NPSG Built & Transforming Identity for Growth

In 2015, a new general contracting division – then called NPSG Development – was launched within an existing company, eventually spinning off as its own entity in 2016. For nearly a decade, the company operated under the radar, primarily serving the construction needs of a giant online retailer, without much concern for external branding or marketing.

NPSG Development had established a strong foundation by working with one of the world’s most demanding clients. However, its market perception remained unclear, and leadership recognized the need to redefine its position in the industry. The company was known by its existing partners for reliability, commitment, and rigorous follow-through on projects, but perception only went so far.

“We had a great reputation with those who knew us,” says company President Rob Beams. “But not only a small group of people knew us.”

Ready to change that, the company decided it was time to enlist help from branding professionals – and determined that id8 would make the best partner. “We liked the way they presented themselves—the professionalism, the detailed scope,” Beam says, “They weren’t the cheapest, but we felt like they really understood what we wanted. I’m an engineer, so having a very detailed proposal, with all the scope broken down and a schedule, just made the decision process a lot easier.”

The Rebranding Strategy

Achieving the company’s goals required action on multiple fronts. One major issue was that the spin-off’s name contained the word “Development,” which implies services like land acquisition that aren’t part of the company’s mission and could be confusing to potential new clients. “Within [that major online retailer], it never really mattered,” Beams says. ”But then when we decided, okay, we want to start pushing our growth, we realized our name was going to be problematic.”

With id8’s guidance, NPSG Development rebranded as NPSG Built – a name much better suited to its core construction services. To establish a stronger foothold in the commercial construction sector, id8 worked with NPSG Built to reposition itself as a leader in mission-critical projects.

The overarching communication goal was to develop a credible, meaningful brand reputation tailored to a specific set of underserved prospects in the marketplace. Through extensive competitive analysis, the id8 helped NPSG Built identify some key differentiators:

  • Proven success with high-demand clients in the logistics and warehousing sector
  • A reputation for meeting aggressive deadlines with a high standard of quality
  • Expertise in commercial construction, design-build, and occupied renovations

In a highly competitive market id8 recognized an opportunity for NPSG Built to stand out by emphasizing its torture-tested reliability, commitment to schedules, and operational safeguards. Unlike competitors who merely claim reliability, NPSG Built had a track record to support it.

Building the New Brand Identity

As part of the transformation, NPSG Built developed a brand personality that aligned with its market positioning, and institutionalized this identity by introducing three guiding principles:

1. Diligence & Persistence – Treating every project as mission-critical, ensuring success
2. Quality & Consistency – Building trust by exceeding expectations
3. Ingenuity & Resourcefulness – Applying problem-solving skills to overcome challenges These principles are now embedded into onboarding materials, internal culture-building initiatives, and more. “Our core values are now part of our performance appraisals,” Beams says. “And we’ve incorporated the messaging into job descriptions, so when people apply, they know exactly who we are and what we stand for.”

Implementation & Execution

While internal alignment was crucial, external messaging was equally important. And although the brand rollout is still in progress, the foundation is firmly in place. “id8 provided a ton of templates for us – program profiles, project profiles, a capabilities list – so we could really showcase what we do,” Beams says. “We’re building out the marketing collateral, implementing a CRM, and preparing for a more public-facing rebrand.”

NPSG Built Director of Business Development Danielle Kitchen says working with id8 has given her tools she can use to help drive the company’s growth. “They equipped us well with a go-to-market strategy, the positioning, and the messaging,” she says. “Everything was consistent, well-worded, and to the point. They were super responsive. Everything about them was fantastic.”

What the Future Holds

By strategically positioning itself to expand beyond its retail-related projects – and leveraging its newly defined brand and operational strengths – NPSG Built is poised to build a broader customer base in logistics, aviation, and institutional construction, a great foundation for future growth.

As for the collaboration that’s gotten the company to this point, Beams says: “Obviously, it’s not something we want to go through again – we don’t want to do another rebranding anytime soon – but if we had to, we’d definitely call id8. The whole process was really smooth. I highly recommend the team. It was a great experience.”
